WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is pronounced ‘Ray-Key’. Rei is the Japanese word which means ‘Universal’ and Ki is the Japanese word which means the ‘vital life force energy’. Reiki is a very ancient healing method, believed to have originated in Tibet and rediscovered by a Japanese monk called Dr Mikao Usui. The Usui System of Natural healing was named after him and this has been passed down by Reiki Masters all over the world. Reiki is a very safe, hands-on healing technique which promotes physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. It works on the mind, body and spirit to ensure inner harmony and encourage the body to heal itself. Reiki affects each person in a very individual way. It works by balancing and harmonising the whole system. A truly individual healing experience.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A REIKI TREATMENT?
A Reiki treatment takes about an hour including the consultation and is usually carried out with you lying on a therapy couch or if preferred, sitting comfortably in a chair. You remain fully clothed except for your shoes. The practitioner’s hands are gently placed and held still either resting on (or slightly above) your head and body. There is no pressure, manipulation or massage involved. You usually feel very relaxed and peaceful as the energy flows through your body and you may experience feelings of warmth, or a tingling sensation, or you may feel nothing at all. After the treatment, some people will feel very energised and others will feel very relaxed and sleepy. It is also normal for some people to feel a little emotional as Reiki may bring old issues to the surface. The best way to understand Reiki is to experience a treatment. For longer lasting benefits, a course of treatments is recommended.
